AOL Tries to Make Lemonade

Maria Russo at The Wrap has a story up about AOL's foray into journalism "and it won't be about aggregation."

Think maybe the demise of newspapers like the Rocky Mountain News and the Seattle Post-Intelligencer have anything to do with this move? With so many lemons lately it's hard to harangue anyone's attempt at making lemonade.

Russo's story says AOL has plans to hire "well-respected political journalists," which it's having no trouble finding:
With cutbacks and collapse dominating most newsprint outlets (the Seattle Post-Intelligencer announced on Monday it would no longer produce a print edition), finding talent for an online portal has been almost an embarrassment of riches.

AOL’s site will be “polypartisan” and focus initially on commentary and analysis, Marty Moe, senior vice president of AOL’s MediaGlow content division, told TheWrap.

He would not reveal the name for the new site, which he said would launch within weeks. He also declined to give the names of journalists being hired, although Melinda Henneberger, lately of Slate and the Huffington Post, has been a presence lately at AOL’s blog “Political Machine.”
